The best breakfast smoothie

I know I should make more time for breakfast in the mornings, and its something I am constantly working on. It features in my new years resolutions annually however most of the time the warm surrounds of my bed are way more appealing than poaching eggs at 6.30am. But hey ho we can’t be perfect all of the time and this is where my nutribullet saves the day time and time again! I can throw in the ingredients the night before and after 10 seconds of whizzing in the morning i’m ready to leave the house with my portable breakfast. Below is one of my favourite smoothie recipes and it actually tastes delicious.

I love to pack as many antioxidants and vitamins in to each meal and this one really does not fall short on either of those! You can’t taste the spinach (I promise) and the cucumber gives it a really nice fresh taste. The protein powder, nuts and flax keep you feeling full throughout the morning and stop those pesky blood sugar spikes. The coconut oil is a great addition too, it contains healthy fats in the form of medium chain triglycerides that are metabolised differently to other saturated fats. MCT’s have been shown in studies to increase energy expenditure helping us to burn more fat. This particular study showed that 15-30 grams of MCT’s per day increased 24 hour energy expenditure by 5%.

1/2 banana

1 celery stick

4 inches cucumber

A handful of spinach or half an avocado (optional)

A handful of your favourite berries

1 tablespoon of ground flaxseeds

3 brazil nuts

1 teaspoon of Maca powder

1 teaspoon Acai berry powder

1 scoop of vegan protein powder

1/2 teaspoon coconut oil

Almond milk


  1. Wash the fresh produce (berries, celery, cucumber and spinach)
  2. Chop it up roughly and add to the nutribullet or blender
  3. Add in all other inngredients and as much almond milk as you like to create the desired consistency. I like mine quite thick so I don’t add loads of almond milk
  4. Whizz for a few seconds and slurp away
