My love of smoothies came from living with an amazingly inspirational woman in Sydney a while back. I had never been very confident in smoothie making until Sam made me a delicious post swim smoothie on a super hot afternoon in Rose Bay. She whizzed it up in no time and we enjoyed it on the porch of her delightful beach style house. It was thick, creamy and cold and I fell in love!

Since then I have been a huge fan of smoothies and I am forever creating new recipes. I think it is such a fantastic way to cram in so many nutrients into one small cup. I like to base mine on fruits, vegetables, a vegan protein source and an array of additional superfoods.

For me it really is the perfect portable breakfast when I am in a rush in the mornings.

This particular smoothie is great in the morning as the Maca powder provides a natural burst of energy, the oats provide a lovely comforting texture and the banana a great morning kick of potassium and magnesium.Β It is equally as perfect for an afternoon pick me up treat, a really nourishing one too!


1 Banana (fresh or frozen)

1/2 cup gluten free jumbo oats

1.5 cupΒ almond milk

2 dessert spoons of milled flaxseed

2 teaspoons Maca powder

1 teaspoon almond or cashew butter

1 teaspoon bee pollen (optional)

How to make

Blend in a Nutribullet or a blender, add as much almond milk as you desire, I like mine quite thick so I don’t add too much. Top with golden nuggets of bee pollen.
